In 2019, the Government announced a two-year initiative to explore delivering a free and healthy daily school lunch to Year 1–8 (primary and intermediate aged) students in schools with high levels of disadvantage. Pita Pit is pleased to be participating in the Ka Ora Ka Ako Healthy School Lunch Programme providing lunches to kiwi kids in registered schools around New Zealand.
Our commitment is to help provide and educate young Kiwi's about nutritious food that's good for you, and your taste buds!
With over 13 years of experience crafting tasty food that grows healthy bodies and supports healthy minds, we've developed a menu that students will love.
Our menu has been created by our in-house menu development team in accordance with our 'better for you' food philosophy. Working closely with our team of local suppliers, bakers, farmers and artisans we are able to adapt and innovate our menu to ensure relevancy and appeal to students. We have extensive experience catering to a variety of dietary and cultural requirements including gluten and dairy free, vegetarian and vegan.
Our Pita Pit team are passionate about providing nutritious, tasty food option. In fact Pita Pit NZ co-founders, Chris & Duane, were PE teachers themselves before embarking on the Pita Pit journey. Our community is made up of locally owned and operated franchise locations with experience delivering on large scale catering for community events and school lunches. Our franchise locations are supported by an in-house operations team who manage supply chain and logistics, as well as menu developers and a chef to ensure we can deliver nutritious, great tasting meals to students nationwide.
Our fresh produce is sourced from local farmers around NZ and delivered fresh to stores where we prepare it each morning. All of our fresh fillings are free from artificial additives and GMO's. We take care to source the best quality meats and use only Ministry Of Education approved Beef & Lamb and hormone free NZ Free-Range Chicken and Egg. Our product packaging range is made from recycled, compostable or biodegradable materials. We use local suppliers where possible to reduce our combined carbon emissions.
Even better we'll be donating sports equipment to schools in need (this could include your school!). A contribution from every school lunch will go towards this program. Pass it Forward is a campaign that hopes to remove one of the barriers to participation in sport by providing sports equipment to children in need.
